The Digital Platform segment activities include the Farfetch Marketplace, FPS, BrownsFashion.com, StadiumGoods.com, and Farfetch Store. The Brand Platform segment is comprised of design, production, brand development and wholesale distribution of brands. The In-Store segment covers the activities of group-operated stores including Browns, Stadium Goods and certain brands in the New Guards portfolio. Its products include womenswear, menswear, kidswear, vintage, fine watches, and fine jewelry. The company was founded by José Manuel Ferreira Neves in 2007 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.

E-commerce may not reach the expected 35% penetration in luxury goods, leading to slower growth and poorer industry economics.

Despite a third-party take rate over 30%, Farfetch is unprofitable. It remains to be seen whether the business can significantly scale if the third-party take rate declines.

The online luxury market is in the early stages of development and growth prospects are evident to market participants; this often attracts well-funded players, increasing competition and potentially damping future returns.

Consumer data collection and analysis over time could result in better personalized merchandising, increasing conversion rates and consequently loyalty rates among consumers and suppliers.

White-label online capabilities and augmented retail offerings could increase switching costs for Farfetch’s branded and retail suppliers, supporting the company’s pricing power.
