Marqeta, Inc. engages in the creation of a digital payment technology. The firm develops a modern card issuing platform, providing infrastructure and tools for building configurable payment cards. It provides its customers issuer processor services and also acts as a card program manager. The company was founded by Jason M. Gardner in 2010 and is headquartered in Oakland, CA.

Marqeta’s efforts to expand into credit cards and international payments are still in their early stages, and it is still highly uncertain if the company’s efforts to break in to these markets will be successful.

Marqeta’s existing customer base includes disruptive firms like Square and Klarna, which provides Marqeta with strong organic growth from its existing user base.

With Marqeta's relationship with Block extended until 2028, the company has time to work on its customer concentration issues before the next contract renewal date.
