Performance Food Group Co. engages in the market and distribution of food products. It operates through the following segments: Foodservice, Vistar, & Convenience. The Foodservices segment delivers food and food-related products to independent restaurants, chain restaurants, and other institutional food-away-from-home locations. The Vistar segment offers candy, snack, and beverage to customers in the vending, office coffee services, theater, retail, and other channels. The Convenience segment consists of a range of products, marketing programs and technology solutions to locations in the United States and Canada. The company was founded in 1885 and is headquartered in Richmond, VA.

PFG’s food-service business does not have the same cost advantages as Sysco, which makes it difficult for PFG to drive long-lasting economic profits.

The Eby-Brown and Core-Mark acquisitions materially dilute Vistar’s profitability and growth and may imprudently divert company resources to the acquired businesses.

Sysco is aggressively pursuing pizzerias and Italian eateries, potentially threatening PFG's stronghold in this segment, although PFG has maintained its market shares through September 2022.

PFG's Vistar segment is the dominant player in multiple channels in which it plays, and this business boasts attractive growth and profit margins.

PFG seems to have emerged from the pandemic in a stronger position, as during the crisis it gained market share from more vulnerable smaller competitors.

PFG's substantial exposure to delivery-heavy pizzerias provides more revenue stability in the face of pandemic-related market disruption.
