The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in considerable volatility, disrupting short-term lubricant demand and quick lube construction plans in some markets.

Private label penetration has risen meaningfully in conventional motor oil, particularly at the expense of mid-tier brands; a continuation of the trend could threaten leading labels like Valvoline and branded premium sales.

The shift toward synthetic oils has extended service intervals, limiting volume growth and the number of oil changes customers require.

The company’s quick-lube chain caters to a premium customer and allows Valvoline to build on its motor oil brands through the lucrative service segment.

The firm should be able to leverage its strength in North America as it bolsters its international presence, capitalizing on its OEM relationships and innovative capabilities.
