Options chain

An options chain is where you browse options contracts by strike price, expiration date, and more.

Depending on the platform (in-app or on the web), you have different option chain views:

  • In the app, you can select between a focused view or a side-by-side view for your options chain. You can switch between the 2 views in the chain’s settings (gear icon).
  • On the web, you can view option chains with the focused view.
Keep in mind

Only the focused view is available for the Options Strategy Builder.

For details on how to customize metrics to include in your options chain, check out options chain metrics.

The main differences between the 2 views:

  • Focused view: Is a more simplified view for focusing on calls or puts.
  • Side-by-side view:
    • View both calls and puts together to build multi-leg strategies more efficiently.
    • Select the Calls or Puts heading to hide the other and view more metrics. Note that to toggle back to showing both, simply select the heading again.
    • Select the Bid column to sell or the Ask column to buy.

The following shows an example of a focused view as compared to a side-by-side view in-app:

Focused vs side-by-side view

As shown in the following GIF for an open options chain in the side-by-side view, as a Level 3 trader, you can drag and drop a single contract or an entire spread as a group to change the strike price. You can also simultaneously view the P/L chart to understand how changing your strategy affects your potential gains and losses (the P/L chart is also available in the focused view).
