Your investor profile

Your investor profile contains information about yourself, your financial situation, and your investing needs. It breaks down your annual income, investment experience and goals, and employment information, among other things. It’s important that you keep this information updated and accurate.

How do I update my information?

App

You can update your investor profile any time in the app:

  1. Select AccountMenu (3 bars) → Settings
  2. Select Personal informationInvestor profile
  3. Select and update the information as needed
Web classic

You can update your investor profile any time on the web:

  1. Select AccountSettings
  2. Select Personal information
  3. Select Edit (pencil icon) next to what you want to update like Employer address
  4. Update the information as needed, and select Save to save the changes

Why do we need this information?

We’re required by various laws and regulations to collect this information for all Robinhood customers when opening an account and at least every 3 years thereafter (or more frequently as needed to comply with industry regulations).

For Robinhood joint accounts, your marriage status in your investor profile needs to be filled out. Your marital status with your joint owner helps with determining the correct cost basis for tax reporting purposes.

What do we do with this information?

We use this information for various purposes, including but not limited to:

  • Keeping your account safe and identifying suspicious activity
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations to keep the financial services industry safe
  • Determining customer eligibility for certain products and services
  • Considering relevant customer-specific information when making a recommendation that is in your best interest

Source of funds

As part of our standard practice to ensure compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements, Robinhood may occasionally request additional information and documents from you to better understand the origin of your funds and wealth being used for account transactions.

By doing this, we help protect your interests and maintain the integrity of our operations. The following document requirements may be needed to satisfy this request, depending on the applicable source of funds or wealth.

How to upload these documents

  • Submit documents through our secure upload portal or in-app prompts to ensure the safety and privacy of your information.
  • Documents must be clear, complete, and fully visible. Any images that are blurry, cropped, or obstructed will not be accepted.
  • PDF files or scans and photographs of physical documents are strongly preferred.

Document requirements

To be considered valid, documents should meet the following criteria:

  • Accepted file formats: PDF (.pdf) or image files (.png, .jpg, .jpeg).
  • Clarity and completeness: The document must be fully visible, with at least 1 corner or edge included for reference.
  • Authenticity: Any attempts to alter or manipulate documents may result in account closure. Note that some documents may require certification from a solicitor or an accountant.
  • Required information: The document should clearly show your name, the issuing entity’s name and logo, the relevant dates, account balance, and transaction details.
  • Redactions: Sensitive information (such as account numbers) can be redacted, but key financial details must remain visible. In specific circumstances, we may request to view an account number that is not redacted.
  • Date validity: Documents should generally be issued within the past 90 days to 24 months depending on the document type, though some exceptions may apply.
  • Address consistency: The address on the document must match the one associated with your Robinhood account. P.O. Box addresses are not acceptable.
  • Account balance: Statements showing an account balance of £0 cannot be accepted.

Accepted documents

The following lists the documents that are accepted by Robinhood to verify your source of funds or wealth. This list is not exhaustive, and where the documents listed are unavailable or inappropriate, we may accept other evidence.

Personal income or savings

  • Recent (within 3 months) payslips that clearly show your personal income; OR
  • P60 document that clearly shows personal income for the last tax year; OR
  • Account documents that show you as a sole trader for the most recent tax year; OR
  • Contracts for services provided as a freelancer, dated and signed by both parties, stating the duration of the agreement, payment terms, and any additional benefits.

Pension or retirement

  • A pension statement that clearly shows your name and pension provider, and at least one of the following:
  • The last 2 months of payments; OR
  • Your pension’s balance

Insurance payout

  • Confirmation from Insurance company of the relevant insurance payout; AND
  • A copy of the insurance policy to which the payout relates.

Inheritance

  • A copy of the probate, will and testament or equivalent, displaying the inheritance, clearly showing your full name and the full name of the Inheritee AND
  • Bank statement showing the receipt of the funds and current account balance.

Gift A Copy of the Deed of Gift or equivalent clearly showing the inheritance value, your full name, and the full name and nature of your relationship with the Donor. Note that for larger gifts, Robinhood may require the document to be certified by a solicitor or an accountant.

Property or business sale

  • Deed of Sale or Sale Agreement for the business or property, clearly showing your full name and the sale price; AND
  • A signed letter from your solicitor confirming the sale, clearly showing your full name and the sale price and the contact details of the solicitor.

Business ownership or dividends

  • Name and company number of your business; AND
  • Payslips, invoice, proof of dividend, or directors letter of appointment for your business as relevant to your earnings, clearly showing your full name and income. Any payslip or invoice must be from within the past 3 months.

Trading or investments Where you indicate trading or investments, we are required to establish the origin of traded funds where capital growth and profits or losses originate from substantial initial capital. To expedite this process, we ask that you also provide the information for the initial capital (as described in this table as appropriate) AND one of the following:

  • Trading or investment statements that clearly show your capital growth; OR
  • Capital Gains Tax statement (such as CGT); OR
  • HMRC Tax Return certified by an accountant or a solicitor.

State benefit The government letter or statement confirming state benefits, clearly showing your name and the financial benefits provided that cover your deposits with Robinhood.

Family Provide answers to the following questions for the family member who has provided the funds:

  • Their first and last name;
  • Their date of birth;
  • Their address;
  • Their annual income;
  • Their current total value of cash and investments;
  • Their total net worth;
  • Their source of wealth;
  • Their marital status; AND
  • The number of dependents they have.

Other A summary to outline your source of funds or income with respect to the deposits in your Robinhood account; AND appropriate supporting documentation.
