Perrigo Co. Plc engages in the provision of self-care products and over the counter health and wellness solutions. It enhances individual well-being by empowering consumers to proactively prevent or treat conditions that can be self-managed. It operates through the Consumer Self-Care Americas and Consumer Self-Care International segments. The Consumer Self-Care Americas segment offers OTC solutions, infant formula, oral care, and contract manufacturing in the U.S, Mexico, and Canada. The Consumer Self-Care International segment includes the self-care business branded in Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom, and parts of Europe and Asia. The company was founded by Luther Perrigo in 1887 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland.

Mismanagement in production could lead to product recalls and result in large settlement fees, putting pressure on Perrigo’s bottom line.

Many consumer packaged goods players have a significantly larger capital and research budget that helps them more easily launch products and could displace Perrigo’s brands.

By expanding its business to focus more on branded products, Perrigo now faces stiffer competition from larger consumer healthcare product manufacturers. 

Perrigo’s scale and ability to supply a wide range of private-label OTC products is unmatched by other smaller players, which partly protects the company’s relationship with its customers.

Because of Perrigo’s presence in private label, we think the company can more easily weather downturns compared with competitors that purely play in the branded market.

Perrigo is now more tapped in to the higher-margin branded consumer health market, and this should act as tailwind to the top and bottom lines in future.
