Trading fees

When you trade crypto on Robinhood Canada, we charge a single, transparent trading fee on each order. There are no separate Robinhood account maintenance or deposit fees.

What you pay

  • Trading fee: 0.50% of the CAD value of the executed amount on every crypto buy and sell order
  • Minimum fee: $0.01 CAD per order

The fee is charged in CAD and applies whether you trade in whole amounts or fractions of a coin.

From time to time, Robinhood may offer limited-time 0% trading fees for specific coins (for example, BTC). When a promotion is active, you’ll see the applicable fee in-app before you place your order and in the Fee schedule.

How we calculate the fee

The trading fee is based on the actual notional value of the trade when it executes, not when you place the order.

  • For market and limit orders, if your order fills in multiple parts, we calculate 0.50% on each executed fill and add those amounts together to get the total fee.
  • For buy orders, your total cost is:
    • Notional trade value (CAD) + trading fee
  • For sell orders, your total credit is:
    • Notional trade value (CAD) − trading fee

Before you submit an order, the order review screen shows an estimated fee based on the current price. If the price moves before your order executes, the final fee may differ slightly from the estimate, because it’s always recalculated on the executed amount.

Example
  • Buy example
    • You place a market buy for $200 CAD of ETH
    • Trading fee = 0.50% × $200 = $1.00 CAD
    • Total cost charged to your account = $201.00 CAD
  • Sell example
    • You sell crypto for $1,000 CAD
    • Trading fee = 0.50% × $1,000 = $5.00 CAD
    • Total proceeds you receive = $995.00 CAD
  • Minimum fee example
    • You buy $1.00 CAD of a coin
    • 0.50% of $1.00 = $0.005, which is below the minimum
    • The fee is rounded up to the minimum $0.01 CAD, and your total cost is $1.01 CAD

Spreads vs trading fees

Crypto trades execute at the best available bid or ask price on our partner venues at the time your order fills.

The “spread” is the difference between the bid and ask prices in the market and is separate from the explicit 0.50% fee.

Robinhood does not receive any portion of the spread, so your cost to trade is the market price you trade at plus the Robinhood trading fee.

Other fees

Your crypto trading fee is separate from:

  • Network (blockchain) fees for on-chain transfers
    • When you send crypto on-chain, you pay a network fee (sometimes called a miner or gas fee). This goes to the network validators, not to Robinhood.
    • We show you an estimated network fee before you submit a transfer out of Robinhood.
  • Bank or payment provider fees
    • Robinhood doesn’t charge its own fee for Interac e‑Transfer deposits or withdrawals, but your bank may charge its own fees or apply limits.
    • Any such charges are set by your bank, not Robinhood.

Where to view your trading fees

You can review your trading fees at any time:

  • Before you trade: On the order review screen, there will be a line item labeled Robinhood fee showing the estimated fee for that order.
  • After you trade: In your order history and trade confirmations, you can view the executed price, notional value, and the Robinhood fee for each completed order.
