Sign in with a new device

Got a new phone or tablet? We’ll walk you through how to set up your new device.

To sign in to your Robinhood account on a new device, you’ll need to use the following applicable instructions depending on whether you had Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled on your old device, if you still have your old device, and whether you still have your backup code.

How to tell if 2FA is enabled on your account

If you have 2FA enabled and try to login, you should get a 2FA prompt in the app, as shown in the following example:

What's a backup code?

Backup codes are another way to help keep your account secure. When you set up 2FA on your account, you’re asked to save a Backup code.

2FA pairs something you know (your password) and something you have (typically your authenticator app or an SMS code in a text message). If you don't have access to your authenticator app or can’t retrieve your SMS code, then use your Backup code to log in with your new device.

Tip

Using your backup code will automatically disable 2FA. We strongly recommend enabling 2FA again after you use your backup code on your new device.

Regenerate a backup code

On your old device
  1. Open the Robinhood app and sign in with your email address and password
  2. Select Account (person icon) → Menu (3 bars) or Settings (gear)
  3. Select Security and privacy
  4. Select Two-Factor AuthenticationRegenerate Backup Code
  5. Save your backup code somewhere you can find it, such as saving it to the cloud or writing it down in a safe place.
On your new device
  1. Open the Robinhood app and sign in with your email address and password
  2. When asked for your 2FA code, select Use Backup Code
  3. Enter your 2FA code
  4. To help keep your account secure, we recommend enabling 2FA again after you access your account on your new device to add back that extra layer of account protection.

Don’t have 2FA enabled
