Settlement and buying power
The settlement period is the time it takes stocks or cash to reach their new destination after a transaction is executed. Buying power is the amount of money you have available to make purchases in your account.
Stocks take 1 trading day to settle. You’ll need to wait 1 trading day to trade with funds from equity sales if you opted into a non-margin account. The default setting at onboarding is a margin account that allows you to trade with unsettled funds. Please bear in mind that margin accounts are subject to regulatory pattern day trading rules.
US bank holidays can affect settlement times.
You’ll find your buying power in your account by selecting Account (person icon). Buying power shows just below the overall portfolio chart in your account.
All investments involve risks, including the loss of principal. Investors should consider their investment objectives and risks carefully before investing.
