How to buy stock | Robinhood

How to buy stock

At Robinhood you can create a buy order by entering the number of shares or the dollar amount of the specified stock. The availability of order types depends on the available trading session and for the 24/5 Market hours on the eligibility of the stock. The default order types per trading session are as follows:

You can choose different order types if you don’t want to use the default order type. During extended hours and 24/5 market hours it isn't possible to select buy market orders, just limit order types. Orders placed in stocks that aren't eligible for the 24/5 market or when the market is closed, are queued for the opening of regular market hours.

Keep in mind

The last-traded price won’t necessarily be the execution price of your buy order. Our app will show you the equivalent Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or British Summer Time (BST) that matches up with the US Eastern times for trading hours. For example, 9:30 AM ET is 5 hours behind GMT and BST, so it'll be 2:30 PM GMT or BST.

  4. Review your order and confirm that all the details are correct or select Edit.
  5. If all looks good, swipe up to submit your order.

Disclosures

Not all securities are eligible for the entry of fractional orders during Robinhood’s extended-hours trading. If a security isn’t eligible, the order will be queued for the opening of market hours.
