Account restrictions

Your Robinhood brokerage account might be restricted for a number of reasons, such as:

  • Company control person
  • Incorrect or outdated account information
  • Sell-only restrictions
  • Fraud inquiries
  • Account levies

Control person

If you declare yourself as a control person for a company, you are typically blocked from trading that stock. In your Robinhood brokerage account, you’ll notice your ability to trade that symbol is blocked for compliance reasons.

If you are no longer a control person for a company, or if you selected this in error, contact us to get your account updated.

How to remove a restriction

The steps to remove an account restriction will depend on the specific restriction. Common requirements include covering any negative balances and potentially uploading any requested documentation.
