Leaders across academics, athletics, and policy unite in Washington, D.C. with the shared goal of expanding access to financial education
On October 29, Robinhood Markets, Inc. hosted its first-ever summit in support of its Money Drills™ program. Money Drills aims to empower students and student athletes by expanding access to on-campus, for-credit personal finance classes. Robinhood hosted leaders across athletics, academics, and policy in their Washington, D.C. office for a day of conversation and connection. Attendees representing universities and athletic programs nationwide underscored the importance of helping the next generation of students and athletes build practical money skills to prepare them for success through their career and beyond.

Attendees heard from members of Congress including Representative Joyce Beatty (D-OH) and Representative Young Kim (R-CA), co-chairs of the House Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus. Former Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC), who served as Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee during his time on the Hill, also joined the conversation. Representative Janelle Bynum (D-OR), a current member of the House Financial Services Committee and parent of a Division 1 athlete, addressed attendees in an evening reception. Together, representing different regions across the country and bipartisan leadership towards access and education, they focused on education as foundational to a successful financial future.
“Through strong bipartisan efforts in Congress, and events like this session today, we can ensure that all Americans gain access to the resources they need to build a secure and financially healthy future,” said Congresswoman Young Kim. “Just like with sports, financial literacy isn’t about a single game. It’s about building habits, resilience, and strength over time. By investing in financial education today, we’re helping everyday Americans build the confidence and the skills they need to achieve their American dream.”
“Robinhood’s Money Drills program seeks to empower student athletes and young people with vital financial literacy skills,” said Congresswoman Joyce Beatty. “As co-chair of the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus, I’m always working to advance public-private partnerships and policy solutions that financially educate American families and create pathways to wealth-building. I’m proud to call Robinhood a partner in this endeavor, and I look forward to continued advancement of our shared goals.”
"Empowering young people with the tools to understand and manage their finances is essential for our economy and their success,” said Congresswoman Janelle Bynum. “ I was glad to be part of this event and I’ll continue working to ensure that everyone has the financial literacy and opportunity to thrive.”
Professors from Money Drills partner campuses gathered together for collaborative workshops, insightful conversation, and connection. Together, they represented schools from: Arkansas State University, Butler University, Coastal Carolina University, the University of Delaware, Florida State University, Howard University, Kansas State University, the University of Memphis , Pennsylvania State University, Texas Christian University, Stanford University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, West Virginia University, and Boise State University - which is set to launch a course in 2026. Over half of our attending university participants were able to meet with representatives from their state on Capitol Hill. These meetings focused on raising awareness around financial education efforts and underscored the importance of expanding learning opportunities.
“Robinhood’s first-ever summit on financial education is a testament to the teamwork it takes to support the next generation of investors,” said Chloe Barz, Senior Director of International Government and External Affairs at Robinhood Markets, Inc. “Working in partnership with policymakers, professors, and professional athletes, we can expand access to resources that help students learn skills they can use for the rest of their lives.”
Last month, Robinhood announced the expansion of its Money Drills program with the addition of four new campuses and a partnership with the Pro Athlete Community. Since its inception in 2022, Money Drills has helped thousands of students gain access to financial education, and with the Pro Athlete Community partnership its impact reaches current and former professional athletes across leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and more.
Tailored to each university, Money Drills courses cover topics that help participants understand concepts like budgeting, credit, and management of NIL income. 96% of participating students have reported that their ability to manage personal finances has improved thanks to the financial education provided through the course.
