Robinhood Money Drills

Financial Education for Student Athletes

‎ Athletes train for the game. Money Drills™ trains them for life through financial education for their athletic career and beyond.

We built the Money Drills™ program so athletes and students can fund their futures. The spark for this program began with student athletes, who are making more money than ever. With the ever-changing landscape of NIL, the exponential growth of sponsorship deals, and general increase in college sports viewership, these athletes may know how to bring in the big bucks but may not be informed of how to manage them.

That’s why in 2022, we launched Robinhood Money Drills®: a first-of-its-kind, for-graduation-credit financial education program for athletes and students to develop the skills and confidence needed to manage their finances. Through these courses, we are creating opportunities for athletes, through classes offered to all students, to grow their money management skills and work towards.

Why Student Athletes?

Student athletes are in a unique financial position while
attending college. Athletes historically suffer from high rates of financial distress due to incredibly high earnings over a very
short period combined with an often uncertain career path. In fact, 78% of professional athletes go broke after 3 years of retirement
(Fox News, 2022).

We saw this need, and knew that financial education not only needed to be provided to athletes, but in a way that was accessible to them and all students on campus. That’s why all Money Drills™ classes count towards graduation credits and are held at times that aim to account for athletes’ schedules.

Curriculum Highlights

No two Money Drills™ classes are identical, they are individually built by professors for the specific needs of each schools’ students. Each course covers the essential skills needed for lifelong financial success, including budgeting, saving, major financial purchases, and topics specific to athletes.

Robinhood does not prescribe curriculum content
in any capacity, and we are proud to fund a wide range of classes, some more fundamental and others more advanced.
