The company was founded by José Antonio Grifols Roig on November 18, 1940 and is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain.

Grifols' subcutaneous immunoglobulin product Xembify is third to market behind Takeda's Cuvitru and CSL's Hizentra, and Grifols may see pressure on market share in the US IG market.
