Deactivate or close my account

If you want to deactivate your Robinhood UK brokerage account or stocks & shares ISA, or permanently close your Robinhood UK account, you can do so in the app or on the web.

After you deactivate your account, you can continue to view your account records.

Deactivate your stocks & shares ISA

Before you can deactivate your brokerage account, you’ll need to deactivate your ISA. Note that you can transfer cash from your ISA to your Robinhood UK brokerage account or to an account with an outside ISA provider by initiating a transfer with them.

If you want to deactivate your ISA:

  1. Confirm you have:
    • No open positions
    • No pending deposits
    • No upcoming dividends
  2. Close all your positions and withdraw your outstanding balance
  3. Confirm you have a £0 GBP account balance
  4. Select Account (person icon) → in app, select Menu (3 bars) or on the web, select Settings
  5. Select Deactivate an account
  6. Select your stocks & shares ISA
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions
  8. Select Deactivate Account to complete the process

Deactivate your brokerage account

If you own a Robinhood stocks & shares ISA, follow the steps in the previous section to deactivate your ISA or transfer your ISA out to another ISA provider. Then complete the following steps to close all your brokerage account positions and withdraw the balance before requesting to deactivate your account.

  1. Select Account (person icon) → in the app, Menu (3 bars)
  2. Select SettingsDeactivate an account
  3. Select your brokerage account
  4. Follow the steps to close all your brokerage positions and withdraw your outstanding balance
  5. After your balance is $0 and your positions are closed, you can confirm your deactivation request

After your account has been deactivated, you’ll still be able to retrieve your historical account statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations in the app. Keep in mind, downloading the Robinhood app again later won’t reactivate your account.

Close your brokerage account

After you’ve deactivated your brokerage account, you can permanently close your Robinhood UK account, if you choose. Account closures are permanent and cannot be reversed.

Before you permanently close your account, keep in mind that:

  • You’ll lose access to your account and you won’t be able to log in to Robinhood.
  • You won't be able to retrieve tax documents and statements. Make sure to download any documents you need before continuing. If you forget something, you can still reach out to Robinhood Support for help after your account is closed.
  • You’ll be unsubscribed from all communications, including account statements.

Before you permanently close your account, you should save your account statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations.

To permanently close your account in the app or on the web:

  1. Select Account (person icon) → in the app, Menu (3 bars)
  2. Select SettingsClose account permanently (will only be available if your account is deactivated)

Finding your account records

After your Robinhood UK account is deactivated, you’ll still be able to retrieve your historical account statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations in the app. Keep in mind, downloading the Robinhood app again won’t reactivate your account.

Regulations require us to preserve certain books and records. We take the security of all collected data extremely seriously, and we don’t intend to use this data for anything beyond the fulfillment of our regulatory requirements.
