Deactivate or close my account

If you want to deactivate your brokerage account or permanently close your Robinhood account, you can do so in the app or on the web.

Deactivate your account

Before you can deactivate your brokerage account, you must close all your account positions and withdraw the balance.

You can request to deactivate your Robinhood brokerage account by following these steps within the app or on the web:

  1. Select Account (person icon) → in the app, Menu (3 bars)
  2. Select SettingsDeactivate account
  3. Follow the steps to close all your brokerage positions and withdraw your outstanding balance
  4. After your balance is $0 and your positions are closed, you can confirm your deactivation request

After your account has been deactivated, you’ll still be able to retrieve your historical account statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations in the app. Keep in mind, downloading the Robinhood app again later won’t reactivate your account.

Close your account

After you’ve deactivated your brokerage account, you can permanently close your Robinhood account, if you choose. Account closures are permanent and cannot be reversed.

Before you permanently close your account, keep in mind that:

  • You’ll lose access to your account and you won’t be able to log in to Robinhood.
  • You won't be able to retrieve tax documents and statements. Make sure to download any documents you need before continuing. If you forget something, you can still reach out to Robinhood Support for help after your account is closed.
  • You’ll be unsubscribed from all communications, including account statements.

Before you permanently close your account, you should save your account statements, tax documents, and trade confirmations.

To permanently close your account in the app or on the web:

  1. Select Account (person icon) → in the app, Menu (3 bars)
  2. Select SettingsClose account permanently (will only be available if your account is deactivated)
