Get started

To trade crypto, you will need to complete a multi-step onboarding process required by the FCA to ensure you understand the risks of crypto investing. This process includes:

  1. Data sharing and consent: You will share some information and consent to data sharing between Robinhood UK and Bitstamp UK. This allows us to verify your identity and create your crypto account.
  2. Review risk warnings: You will view detailed information about the risks of investing in crypto assets. Read these carefully.
  3. Complete an investor profile: Answer a few questions to help us understand your investing experience, including your knowledge of crypto, your income, and your investment goals.
  4. Complete an appropriateness assessment: This assessment helps determine if crypto trading is suitable for you based on your knowledge and experience. You will need to answer questions about crypto concepts and risks.
  5. 24-hour cooling-off period: After completing onboarding and having your account approved, you must wait 24 hours before you can place your first crypto trade. During this time, you can browse crypto prices and learn more, but the buy and sell buttons will be unavailable.
  6. Annual re-certification: Every 12 months, you will need to re-certify your investor profile and appropriateness assessment to continue trading crypto.

How it works

Currency

All crypto trades are denominated in US dollars (USD). When you place a crypto order, you will enter the amount in USD and the order will execute in USD.

You can view your portfolio value in GBP or USD using the currency switcher in the app, but all order entry and execution happens in USD. Crypto price charts are also displayed in USD.

If you have GBP in your account but not enough USD to complete a crypto purchase, you'll see a conversion flow that allows you to convert GBP to USD before placing your order.

Review Buy or sell crypto for steps to place a crypto order.

Trading hours

Crypto trades 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Weekend and holiday trading and currency conversion may be subject to different FX rates.
