With its expansion to Canada, Robinhood now has more than 1 million international funded customers, supporting its vision of building the leading global financial ecosystem.
Robinhood Markets, Inc. (“Robinhood”) has closed its acquisition of WonderFi, a Canadian leader in digital asset products and services. The acquisition marks Robinhood's entry into Canada through a well-established operator of regulated digital asset platforms, positioning Robinhood to deliver a new standard of innovative financial products in the country.
“WonderFi has extensive experience operating regulated crypto platforms that serve beginner and advanced crypto users alike, making it an ideal partner to accelerate Robinhood’s mission in Canada,” said Johann Kerbrat, SVP, General Manager of Robinhood Crypto & International. “We’re pleased to have closed our acquisition and look forward to delivering innovative, user-centric investing products to Canadian customers.”
WonderFi operates two of Canada’s longest-standing regulated crypto platforms, Bitbuy and Coinsquare, which will become part of the Robinhood brand. Canadian customers will be invited to download the Robinhood app — unlocking access to lower fees with a flat 0.5% fee per CAD trade, Robinhood’s best-in-class user interface and user experience, backed by trusted infrastructure on a globally scaled platform.
WonderFi is a trusted partner to many institutions in Canada, and Robinhood will continue to support those relationships, building upon the global institutional business Robinhood has established through Bitstamp.
Robinhood’s expansion to Canada supports its vision of building the leading integrated global financial ecosystem. Robinhood now has more than 1 million international funded customers, including approximately 300,000 funded customers from WonderFi.
WonderFi employees join more than 240 Robinhood employees based in Canada. Robinhood established its Canadian headquarters in Toronto in 2024 as an engineering hub, tapping into Canada’s deep pool of tech talent.
