Verify it's you

When you log in to or update information for your Robinhood account, you will need to verify it is you. Two-factor authentication (2FA) helps protect your Robinhood account by requiring 2 sources of verification to sign in: something you know (your password) and something you have. Every time you log in or make changes to your Robinhood account, you’ll get a request for another form of verification in addition to your password, such as:

  • Device approval request
  • SMS one-time-code
  • A three-point selfie
  • A photo of the front and back of a valid government ID

We do this to make sure that a login attempt is from a device that you have access to, and not from an attacker. For account updates, make sure it is you who authorized them.

What is a device approval?

Why is Robinhood asking me to submit a selfie?

We use your selfie as a secure baseline to help confirm it is really you, especially if we detect suspicious activity. It strengthens your account protection, helps prevent fraud, and makes it easier to recover access if you are ever locked out. Submitting a selfie is quick, secure, and helps us protect your account using our internal verification tools.

Is my biometric data safe?

Yes, your biometric data is securely stored and used only to protect your account. We retain it in accordance with financial regulations and Robinhood’s Privacy Policy.

I was asked to submit an SMS, but can not receive it

Reach out to support to update your phone number. If you are trying to log in and can not receive the SMS code, select I need help. You will be given an option to resend code, or verify using a different method, or can contact support.

When you change your phone number in order to log in, we will ask you to verify your identity to ensure your account's security.

I submitted a three-point-selfie, why am I running into an error?

You can change your email with Robinhood as long as you have access to the phone number associated with your account. You can view the email address associated with your account in Settings, and update it, if necessary.
