Verifying it's you | Robinhood

Verifying it's you

When you log in to or update information for your Robinhood account, we might ask you to verify it’s you. If so, we’ll ask for a 2nd piece of information in addition to your password, such as:

  • Device approval request
  • Verification code through your preferred authenticator app
  • Verification code sent as a text message to your phone number

We do this to make sure that a login attempt is from a device that you have access to, and not from an attacker. And for account updates, to make sure it's you who authorised them.

FAQ

Didn’t get a verification code?

If you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) set up, try the following to troubleshoot depending on which verification option you have set up with 2FA:

Text message (SMS) verification

  • Verify that your phone number is correct
  • Make sure your device has a signal and an internet connection
  • Restart your phone and make sure no other apps are running in the background
  • Verify that your notifications are turned on for your device and make sure Do not disturb is turned Off
  • If you’re using a third-party phone security app, make sure the app isn’t blocking text messages and phone calls from unknown callers, which might be preventing you from receiving verification codes—within any app you may be using, adjust your settings for text message filtering

Authenticator app verification

  • Restart your phone, and make sure no other apps are running in the background
  • Verify that the date and time on your device is set to the correct time zone—having an incorrect clock can cause verification codes to be out of sync
  • Verify that your authenticator app wasn’t uninstalled or reset
  • Make sure you're using the latest version of your authenticator app

Device approval verification

  • Make sure you have push notifications enabled for the Robinhood app — if you don't have notifications enabled, you’ll have to approve or deny the action in the app
  • Resend the push notification, which will be sent to your enrolled devices
  • Make sure your device has a signal and an internet connection
  • Try using text message (SMS) as an alternate verification method

Didn’t request a verification code?

If you recently got a verification code but aren’t trying to log in or change your account information, review the devices associated with your account, and remove any that you no longer use or don't recognise. If you ever notice any suspicious activity on your Robinhood account, you can take immediate action with the following options:

  • Remove any devices you don’t recognise from your account: AccountSecurity and PrivacyDevices
  • Update your account with a strong and unique password
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication for your account: AccountSecurity and PrivacyTwo-Factor Authentication
