Verifying it's you
When you log in to or update information for your Robinhood account, we might ask you to verify it’s you. If so, we’ll ask for a 2nd piece of information in addition to your password, such as:
We do this to make sure that a login attempt is from a device that you have access to, and not from an attacker. And for account updates, to make sure it's you who authorised them.
If you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) set up, try the following to troubleshoot depending on which verification option you have set up with 2FA:
Text message (SMS) verification
Authenticator app verification
Device approval verification
We use your selfie as a secure baseline to help confirm it’s really you—especially if we detect suspicious activity. It strengthens your account protection, helps prevent fraud, and makes it easier to recover access if you're ever locked out. Submitting a selfie is quick, secure, and helps us protect your account using our internal verification tools.
Yes, your biometric data is securely stored and used only to protect your account. We retain it in accordance with financial regulations and Robinhood’s Privacy Policy.
While you can’t delete it yourself, we never sell your data and only use it for identity verification when needed.
You can change your phone number with Robinhood directly from the app. Or you can go to Contact Us → I have a different question → Account → Update your info → Phone Number to change it.
When you change your phone number in order to log in, we'll ask you to verify your identity to ensure your account's security.
You can change your email with Robinhood as long as you have access to the phone number associated with your account. You can view the email address associated with your account in Settings, and update it, if necessary.
If you recently got a verification code but aren’t trying to log in or change your account information, review the devices associated with your account, and remove any that you no longer use or don't recognise. If you ever notice any suspicious activity on your Robinhood account, you can take immediate action with the following options:
