Cash Management Security Features
Your Robinhood debit card comes with Mastercard Zero Liability protection. Your protection applies to purchases that you make in the store, online, or via a mobile device. If you notice any unauthorized transactions, you can contact support with the transactions in question and we’ll help investigate your claim and work to return your money.
Every transaction that you make is run through several different fraud checks. If we think that the purchase is fraudulent, we’ll decline the transaction and send you a notification. If this transaction was incorrectly flagged, you’ll be able to acknowledge the transaction and try again. If it was a fraudulent transaction, you’ll be able to lock your card and/or report it stolen right in your app.
Location Protection helps protect you from potential fraudsters using your card far away from your actual location. We determine your location based on the location of your mobile phone. For example, if you’re in Arizona (based on location information from your phone) but your card is swiped in Wyoming, we’ll decline that transaction. Location Protection is optional, and it only works if you’re sharing your location with Robinhood. If you’re going to be spending money away from your phone, you can always turn Location Protection off in your app.
Locking your card prevents all future transactions on your card. If someone (including you) tries to use your card, they’ll get declined and we’ll send you a push notification and email. You can lock or unlock your card at any time by tapping the debit card image in the Cash tab and toggling Lock Card. Locking your card won’t prevent pending transactions from settling or changing.
Locking withdrawals prevents all future non-originated withdrawals from your brokerage account. If someone (including you) tries to make a withdrawal, the transfer will fail and we’ll send you a push notification, inbox message, and email. You can lock or unlock withdrawals at any time by toggling Lock Withdrawals at the bottom of the Cash tab. Please keep in mind that locking withdrawals doesn’t lock your debit card.
We’ll send you a push notification every time your card is used. We’ll let you know the merchant and the purchase amount so you can stay on top of your spending. You can also disable these notifications altogether if you’d like. If you don’t recognize the purchase, you can lock your card or report it stolen right in your app. You can contact support with the purchase(s) in question and we’ll help investigate your claim and work to return your money.
To report your card as lost, stolen, or damaged, tap the card in the Cash tab of the app and select “I have a problem.” If you don’t have your app handy, you can call 1-800-601-3350 to report your card lost or stolen 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Once you report your card as lost or stolen, your card will be cancelled and we’ll issue you new card information, free of charge. If you’ve opted in to a physical debit card, we’ll also mail you a new card. It should arrive within two weeks. In the meantime, you can activate your card and use it online and with Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.
If there are any fraudulent charges, you can file a dispute by contacting support and we’ll work to get your money back.
