Transfer your assets in
You can transfer stocks, cash, and other eligible assets from your outside brokerages into Robinhood through ACATS. You can transfer all or part of an outside account.
We only accept assets from individual cash, margin brokerage accounts, or traditional or Roth IRAs. We don’t currently accept transfers from trust, joint, business, or custodial accounts.
Also, your cost basis will be available and reported on your Form 1099 when provided by the outside brokerage. For cost-basis questions, ask the outside brokerage directly.
After we receive an account transfer request, it typically takes 5-7 business days for the assets to be settled in your Robinhood account. When your request is accepted, you’ll no longer have access to the positions being transferred from the outside brokerage. You’ll be able to manage the assets with Robinhood as soon as the transfer process is complete.
Your outside brokerage may charge you a transfer fee to transfer your assets. Robinhood will reimburse you for up to $75 of that fee for transfers of $7,500 or more in equity, options, and cash assets (per account type and brokerage firm) into your Robinhood account.
Reimbursement eligibility is based on the asset values calculated from the previous market close on the transfer date (when we receive the transfer). Any residual transfer amounts aren’t included. For eligible transfers, contact us with additional information to request a reimbursement.
No. ACATS doesn't support the transfer of crypto. You may transfer equities, ETFs, and options positions into your Robinhood brokerage account, Robinhood traditional IRA, or Roth IRA account. RHF and RHS are registered broker-dealers that support equities and options trading, while Robinhood Crypto (RHC) supports crypto trading.
No. Fractional shares are non-transferable. When you initiate the transfer, the outside brokerage will most likely liquidate all the fractional shares in your account based on their fair market value. The proceeds should then be transferred to your Robinhood account as a residual transfer.
Yes. To transfer in a margin balance, make sure that you've been approved for margin investing before you initiate a transfer. Your account must support the margin balances and positions that you transfer in to avoid any margin calls or account deficits.
No. Options contracts that expire within 7 days aren't transferable. You also can't use assets in your Robinhood portfolio to serve as collateral for incoming options positions. Any collateral required for options must be part of the transfer. Keep in mind, you also need to be approved for the applicable level of options trading for your account to support some of the more advanced strategies.
You can transfer eligible assets as a partial account transfer. For a full account transfer, you’ll need to liquidate the non-transferable assets to cash in the outside brokerage account before initiating the transfer.
Yes. After submitting your account transfer request, you can see the current transfer stage in your Robinhood account under History. If your request cannot be completed, you’ll get a notification with details in the Robinhood app.
You can cancel a transfer request from within your Robinhood account under History. Not all cancellation requests will be successful depending on which stage you're at in the process. You may need to contact your outside brokerage if Robinhood is unable to cancel the transfer.
You might receive a residual transfer or sweep that is initiated by your outside brokerage. Residual assets may continue to come in for up to 6 months after the transfer completes. These could be assets, such as cash from dividends, that arrived at the brokerage too late to be transferred in the initial round.
An account transfer can be rejected for a number of reasons, including the following:

Your other brokerage account contains ineligible assets. In the review stage, if we see that you're bringing in assets that Robinhood can't hold, we'll reject your transfer request. Typically, if a security is purchasable on Robinhood, it is transferable (for both full and partial positions). Review What can I transfer into Robinhood before you initiate the transfer process.
You haven't met the margin balance requirements. If you want to bring in a margin balance, make sure you've been approved and enabled margin investing before you attempt another account transfer. Your account will need to support the margin balances and positions you transfer in to avoid any margin calls or account deficits.
You don’t have options trading approved and enabled. If you want to transfer options contracts into Robinhood, you need to sign up and get approval for options trading in the app first before you re-initiate an account transfer.
If none of these reasons apply, contact us for help.
