Advisor Network FAQ

The Robinhood Advisor Network is a referral marketplace designed to connect Robinhood customers with Investment Adviser Representatives (IARs) from third–party Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firms.

Unlike Robinhood Strategies, which is a digital advisory service managed directly by Robinhood Asset Management, the Robinhood Advisor Network acts as a bridge to independent, human financial professionals for customers who want high-touch wealth management.

Keep in mind

This is part of a rolling release that might not be available to you just yet.

What’s the minimum investment?

The Advisor Network service is available to our U.S. customers who have a minimum of $250,000 in investable assets, such as cash and liquid investments, that is available to be managed by the advisor that you select.

What can an advisor help with?

The services that an advisory firm offers can vary. Advisors in the network offer ongoing, personalized financial advice and portfolio management. Specific services may include retirement planning, tax and estate planning, managing equity compensation, and so on.

How are advisors vetted?

Robinhood’s Advisor Network service will match you with at least 3 vetted, registered IARs from RIA firms. These participating firms are required to have a minimum of $500 million in assets under management (AUM). Each independent advisor is reviewed on a number of aspects, including their tenure and backgrounds.

What do I provide?

You’ll complete a client profile about your financial goals, life events, and specific needs (like stock-based compensation or estate planning) when you sign up for the Advisor Network service.

How do I select an advisor?

Based on the information you provide us when you sign up, the Advisor Network service will match you with a curated list of advisors who align with your goals and needs. You can view information about each advisor within our app, including their profile, why you matched with them, their professional bio, their support team, and so on.

You can meet with one or more of the suggested advisors at no cost to you through video calls within our app. If you find the right fit, you and your advisor will set your fees together. For more details about how to schedule, cancel, or reschedule meetings with potential advisors, review What to expect from an advisor meeting.

What are the management fees?

There are no fees to access the Robinhood Advisor Network. However, if or when you choose to engage with an independent third-party advisor, that relationship will typically include an advisory fee. Their fees will vary depending on the advisor and will be disclosed by the advisor before you enter into an agreement and begin a relationship with them.

Note

Advisors in the network are independent and not employees of Robinhood. They are responsible for providing you with investment advice and asset management once you enter into an agreement and begin a relationship with one of them.

How long can I evaluate advisors?

After you sign up for the Advisor Network, you can evaluate and meet with matched advisors for up to 6 months before confirming your relationship with an advisor. After that, your access to the Advisor Network in the app will expire and you'll need to complete onboarding again and re-sign the agreement to continue.

What does onboarding with the third-party advisor involve?

If you choose to move forward, onboarding and account opening occur directly with the advisor and their firm. The advisor will provide the various required disclosures prior to onboarding, for example their Form ADV Part 2A brochure, which outlines their services, fees, conflicts of interest, and investment minimums.

How often will I get information about my account?

You can view your advisor-managed portfolio in the app. Your advisor will communicate with you directly about your portfolio and account updates.

Note that your assets are custodied and cleared through Wells Fargo First Clearing (WFFC), so you can also use an AccessOnline portal with Wells Fargo to view your portfolio. Keep in mind that Robinhood Asset Management doesn’t hold discretionary authority over these accounts.

What if my portfolio value doesn’t match between sources?

The following might cause your portfolio value in the app to be outdated or inaccurate as compared to what you can view through the AccessOnline portal with Wells Fargo:

  • The app only updates the pricing for fixed income and mutual funds 1 time each day, during overnight hours.
  • When your advisor makes a trade, the app will freeze your portfolio view at the point when we have accurate data. This means that the data will only show what’s available as of the time of the trade. However, as soon as we get updated information about the new positions, the app will show them in your portfolio view.
  • The app also won’t show data for certain asset types, such as preferred stocks, warrants, unit investment trusts (UITs), units, annuities, real estate, oil and gas, and other alternative asset types. You’ll need to use the AccessOnline portal with Wells Fargo to view details about these asset types.

Can I stop working with an advisor?

If you have established an account with an independent third-party advisor and want to end that relationship, you need to reach out to your advisor to close your advisory account directly with them, not with Robinhood Advisor Network.

If you are still in the process of engaging with an advisor through the network, such as reviewing advisor videos, setting up an appointment, or meeting with an advisor, you may stop at any time, at no additional fee.

If I don’t find an advisor now, can I try again later?

You are under no obligation to engage with a third-party advisor. If you are unable to find an advisor that meets your needs, you can always try again later.

What are the terms and conditions for this service?

What about taxes?

For tax reporting purposes, you’ll get applicable tax forms as needed for your Advisor Network account from Wells Fargo. If applicable, a duplicate, watermarked copy will be available through your Robinhood account with the same account information, which will be for informational purposes only.

What if I suspect unusual activity in my managed account?

Check out Security best practices and How to identify and report scams, and then if you suspect unusual activity, contact your advisor immediately.
