Escheatment
Escheatment is a process where assets (including cash, equities, and crypto) in an account are sent to a state or territorial agency if there’s been no activity for an extended period of time. Different states and US territories have different rules on how long an account must be inactive for it to be considered dormant and therefore subject to escheatment.
You can learn more about the escheatment process at the SEC website and the NAUPA website.
To avoid your assets being sent to a state or territorial agency, you can simply log into your Robinhood account or contact Robinhood Support to retain your assets.
We’ll send you an email and/or a physical letter to your address on file. This notification will include the date by which you have to log into your account to avoid assets being escheated.
If your assets have been escheated, you can contact the agency that manages escheated assets in your state or territory to claim your funds.
