Setting up an agent
Create your own AI agent in the Robinhood app to help you research assets, analyze your portfolio, and place trades. Your agent is hosted by Robinhood and powered by a large language model (LLM) from a third-party provider. You choose the model and how much to fund the dedicated Agentic account your agent uses for trading.
Robinhood does not build, train, or own the AI. Robinhood provides and operates the surrounding platform, but does not author or endorse the agent's responses.
The full built-in agentic trading experience, including setting up and chatting with your agent, is currently available only in the Robinhood mobile app. On the web, agentic accounts may have limited usability.
To connect an external agent to Robinhood’s Trading MCP (Model Context Protocol) instead, review Onboarding an external agent.
To get started, you’ll need to create your agent and open a dedicated Agentic account. You must have an open primary Robinhood individual investing account before you can open an Agentic account. If you need to complete additional account requirements, you’ll see instructions during setup.
To set up your built-in agent:
Robinhood connects your built-in agent to its trading tools and adds a starter set of skills as part of setup. You don’t need to manually connect the Robinhood Trading MCP or select skills during onboarding.
You can currently have one built-in agent on Robinhood with its own dedicated Agentic account.
The optional margin account agreement is selected by default during account opening. If you accept it, your Agentic account opens as a limited margin account. To open a cash account instead, deselect the optional margin agreement before completing account opening.
Limited margin allows you to trade with unsettled funds from stock and option sales. It doesn’t provide borrowing power or leverage, and margin borrowing isn’t currently available in Agentic accounts.
For a general comparison of cash and margin accounts, review Robinhood investing accounts. Keep in mind that the margin investing features described there aren’t available in an Agentic limited margin account.
With trade approvals turned on, your agent can propose trades, but you must review and manually place the proposed orders in the Robinhood app. Your agent can’t approve a proposed trade for you.
If you turn trade approvals off, your agent can place eligible trades without your manual confirmation of each order. Certain trades may still require approval, depending on the trade and the model you’re using. You can change this setting during setup or later in Agent settings.
You are responsible for your agent’s actions, including the trades it places in your account.
You can choose from the models available during setup and change your selection later in Agent settings. Models can differ in their reasoning capabilities and token costs, so your choice may affect your agent’s responses and how much usage you get from your token balance.
Once your account is created, you can fund it with an amount you choose. You can deposit money from a bank or another supported funding source, transfer money from another Robinhood account, or transfer assets into your Agentic account. You can also skip funding and return to it later.
From your Agentic account home screen, select Add money to open the funding flow or Transfer assets to open the asset transfer flow. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
Your agent can view information from your other Robinhood accounts, but it can only place trades in its dedicated Agentic account.
Once you’ve completed setup, go to your Agentic account and select the chat bar labeled Ask {your agent’s name}. You can start with a request such as “Analyze my portfolio” or “Tell me how this stock is doing.”
You can start chatting even if you choose to fund your Agentic account later.
Chatting with your agent uses tokens, which are paid for from a separate prepaid usage balance. You’ll receive a free starting balance and can purchase more as needed. Review Token usage billing for more details.
Yes. From your Agentic account home screen, select the Settings gear icon in the top right corner to open Agent settings.
You can change your agent’s name, turn trade approvals on or off, and select a different model. Changing your agent’s name also changes your Agentic account’s nickname. Changing the model applies to future chat messages and may change your usage costs.
If you can’t continue, review the message shown in the app. You may need to activate or reactivate your first individual investing account, confirm your tax status, or wait for a pending tax certification review. Reaching the maximum number of individual investing accounts can also prevent you from opening an Agentic account.
If account opening takes longer than expected, use the refresh option when it’s shown. If the issue continues, follow the on-screen instructions to contact Robinhood Support.
If your Agentic account was created but your agent wasn’t, you can return to the account home screen to finish creating your agent or contact Robinhood Support for help.
Robinhood Agents lets you build your own AI agent in the Robinhood app and connect it to a dedicated, self-directed Robinhood account. You choose the LLM model that runs your agent, and you set the instructions and limits that apply. Agents can research markets, analyze holdings, and place trades based on the instructions you provide.
Robinhood Agents and its supporting technology are provided by Robinhood Labs, LLC (“RHL”), a technology company. RHL is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, futures commission merchant, or money transmitter; does not provide investment advice or recommendations; and does not hold customer funds or securities or execute transactions. Brokerage, cryptocurrency, futures and derivatives services are provided by the applicable registered Robinhood affiliates.
Agentic accounts come with trade approvals settings which you can configure to allow automated trade execution. With approvals on, your agent cannot place an order until you approve it. You can turn trade approvals off, and if you do, your agent can place orders without asking you to confirm each one. Engaging with agentic trading entails inherent risks regarding investment outcomes and third-party data policies.
You assume all risk for trades executed by AI agents and for any use of your data by third-party LLM providers. Robinhood does not control, supervise, monitor, recommend, or audit agents.
Agentic trading involves significant risk, including the possible loss of your entire investment. AI-driven strategies may perform poorly under certain market conditions, move quickly, and be difficult to monitor or stop in real time. Your agent can only trade in its dedicated agentic account and cannot trade in other Robinhood accounts. You can pause your agent's automations or disconnect it at any time. This product may not be appropriate for all investors.
AI agents can make errors, misinterpret instructions, act on incomplete or outdated information, and may behave in unexpected ways. Robinhood does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any agent output and is not responsible for your agent's output or for investment losses in your agentic account. Customers are responsible for reviewing account activity, monitoring positions, and ensuring the agent is operating as intended.
