Unlicensed states

You’ll get a notice from Robinhood if your residential address changes to a state where we currently aren’t licensed.

To comply with local laws and regulations, you can't open or have a Robinhood spending account open when you live in an unlicensed state. Check out our list of Robinhood spending account licenses for more details.

When will my account close?

If you move to an unlicensed state, your Robinhood spending account and Robinhood Cash Card will be closed within 30 days of your residential address change.

Pending transactions

After your residential address changes, you’ll no longer be able to make any new transactions with your spending account or Robinhood Cash Card. Any pending transactions, disputes, or refunds will continue to be processed through your spending account until it’s closed.

Recurring transfers

If you have any recurring transfers set up to or from your spending account, they’ll eventually fail and be canceled.

If you have authorized a third party to initiate payments or transfers from or to your Robinhood Cash Card or spending account, such as paychecks deposited into your spending account by your employer, you’re responsible for contacting these third parties (including your employer) and asking them to change the transfers to a different account. We'll decline such payments or transfers.

Withdrawals

You can withdraw money at any time until the account is closed.

What happens when my account is closed

If your spending account has any remaining balance available when it’s closed, we’ll do one of the following with it:

  • Automatically transfer it to your individual investing account.
  • If you don’t have an individual investing account, we’ll transfer it to the bank account linked to your spending account.
  • If no bank account is linked to your spending account, we’ll send you a check to the last known address we have on file.
Proof of residency

If you want to keep your spending account, you must provide us with proof of your current residential address in a licensed state, such as a recent utility bill, bank statement, or other document with your name and residential address (dated within 60 days). You can upload it within the app where prompted, or by contacting Robinhood support.
